Assistant Professor in Digital Animation

The University of Hawai῾i at Mānoa, Academy for Creative Media, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Digital Animation, appointment to begin August 1, 2012, pending position clearance and availability of funds. Position no. 70045. Duties:

  1. Teach classes, advise students, undertake creative/scholarly work, and develop curriculum and opportunities in digital animation;
  2. Develop and supervise internships, group, and individual projects;
  3. Undertake departmental, university, and professional service; and actively participate in community outreach;
  4. Develop and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships with relevant programs (e.g. Art);
  5. Other duties as assigned by chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD, MFA, or suitable terminal degree in appropriate area of animation study and practice;
  2. Professional experience and evidence of substantial creative work in animation;
  3. Evidence of successful university-level teaching.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of advanced knowledge and application of 3D animation software including Autodesk Maya with an emphasis in modeling, rigging, dynamics/particle systems, and rendering;
  2. Evidence of advanced knowledge and application of Adobe Software: Flash, After Effects; Premier Pro; Photoshop, Illustrator; additional compositing packages and non-linear editing tools;
  3. Evidence of skills in Live Action/Animation compositing;
  4. Evidence of developed drawing skills;
  5. Evidence of creative work in 2D animation;
  6. Established relationships with independent film or industry content producers in digital animation, such as 3D animated films, 3D and Flash video games, animated television programming, web/mobile media services.

The series is composed of fictional 2D and 3D elements and characters and real life pictures. Furthermore it is assigned to the genre comedy.
The Compositing starts in March 2012 and takes place in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
