Lighting & Shading TD – Short term contract Via Aardman.com

We are looking for a talented and experienced Lighting & Shading Technical Director to work in our CGI department at Gas Ferry Road.
The CGI department is involved principally in the production of commercials, and occasionally broadcast and short films. It is also involved in the CG aspects of Aardman’s Features slate.

You will be expected to provide support across the department in lighting/rendering and shading.  Setting up lighting/shading workflow and providing complete lit shots on all CGI productions including commercials, short films and stings.

You should be highly proficient in Maya (including experience of MEL & Python scripting).  Also, you should have an in-depth knowledge of Renderman (writing shaders in SL, RIB debugging , RMS usage and configuration) and must have experience in a production environment.  You will also need proven compositing skills (After Effects, Fusion, Nuke).  Experience in other areas of CG production would be a bonus.

You should be highly creative in both technical and artistic problem solving, with a positive and pro-active approach. We’d also expect you to be supportive and team focused , with strong communication skills. For more info, please see the attached job description.

C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures located in downtown Toronto is looking for Compositors to join the visual effects team.

Digital Pictures, C.O.R.E. Toons and C.O.R.E. Feature Animation. Job Duties:

• Create vfx elements and complete shots using various cg, live action or other elements
• Work with other compositors, matte painters and cg artists
• Make timely corrections to work when required
• Take creative direction from leads and/or VFX Supervisor
• Additional duties as required

Qualifications:

• Excellent working knowledge of software packages such as Fusion, Shake, Combustion
• Knowledge of pftrack, photoshop, synth eyes/mokey an asset
• Excellent eye for colour, lighting and composition
• Excellent ability to assess shot requirements, flag potential problems and facilitate solutions
• Accredited post secondary school compositing course or equivalent
• 3-5 years experience in compositing visual effects for feature film
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
