Your professional experience will also contribute to shaping our curriculum as it adapts to keep pace with industry needs. Previous experience of teaching in HE would be an advantage, though not a requirement if you have a passion for educating the next generation and the ability to communicate relevant computer-based concepts and skills in the context of a creative arts environment.

We anticipate appointing this post from January 2011 on a fixed term basis initially to 30 June 2012, at which time it may be extended. Interviews will be held on 17 December 2010.

Film Roman seeks Flash Animator

Summary of Job:

Creates the motions, gestures, and expressions of three-dimensional computer graphics characters and objects.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive with each assigned shot: storyboards, story reels, recorded dialogue, set layout, and direction. The Director shows each new sequence in layout and describes what is expected for every shot at a “blocking meeting”
  • Read soundtrack and plan shot
  • Block in movements in rough animation and show for the Director’s approval in a daily review
  • Finish work for Director approval. Finish in a timely manner
  • Attend animation dailies

Requirements

  • Degree or certificate in classical animation, film, or related field, or equivalent production animation experience
  • Must have a DVD demo reel that demonstrates application of the principles of animation to tell a story with meaning through movement
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
  • Proven storytelling skills
  • Ability to use acting skills, which bring characters to life, as well as clearly communicate simple ideas with which an audience can empathize
  • Strong understanding of traditional animation principles
  • An art background, which shows a thorough, understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form
  • Computer animation experience preferred but not required

The Mid-level 3D Story Artist works with other artists under the CG Supervisor as part of a team to pre-visualize CG animated television episodes given direction from Supervising and Episodic Directors.

  • Under minimal supervision, use and occasionally create, digital assets including character and backgrounds to interpret a script as visualized by the Supervising and/or Episodic director.
  • Provide cinematic pre-visualization of Director’s vision by completing layout of 3D animatic level sequences from start to finish using multiple elements based on scripts and input from Director(s).
  • Provides other concept artists with underlays and source art created in 3D.
  • Tracks shot progress through entire pre-visualization process. Archives all project files, renders, and source images.
  • Completes special projects as needed or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in feature film or television production
  • Extensive training in and/or strong demonstrable understanding of the principles of story-telling, art and film.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scene, shot, camera, and character composition is required.
  • Modeling, lighting, texturing and animation experience strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of terminology and techniques used in film, animation and visual effects including basic knowledge of photography and camera lenses.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Maya, XSI or 3Ds max required. Proficiency in other applications such as Photoshop and After Effects, as well as familiarity with digital video is highly desired.
  • Ability to learn and use new software as needed.
  • Ability to work under pressure as well as implement changes based on input from multiple sources.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a multi-user environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills a must.
