Job Description

WHO WE ARE
Shy Guys Studios is based in the heart of Bristol. We are a professional studio focused on animation, illustration and motion graphics. We develop kick-ass digital content for a wide range of clients in Bristol and the UK – from e-learning to explainer videos to broadcast graphics. We love developing stories and using characters to push personality into our work.

THE JOB

We are currently looking grow and diversify our small, friendly, collaborative team. We’re after a talented animator with experience in character animation, who is driven and passionate about animation and thrives on the challenge of undertaking creative projects in a professional environment. You will be working on a broad range of creative projects for different clients, as well as studio productions, which will include character animation, motion graphics and vector illustration.

All applicants MUST already be eligible to work in the UK, and available to start working in-house at our studio within 1 month of job acceptance. Successful applicant will be offered an immediate start.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE

Concept work and style frames
Storyboarding and animatics
Asset design and prep
Character rigging and animating
2D Animation and motion graphics
Editing animation sequences
Sourcing and editing sound effects and music
Rendering and output of animation
Communicating with clients

ESSENTIALS

Formal relevant training, such as a BA degree in Animation or similar.
Minimum of 1 year’s professional experience (since graduating).
Experience in character rigging and animation with DUIK and/or Rubberhose.
A showreel including evidence of character animation.

MUST be proficient in our preferred software;

Adobe CC After Effects
DUIK
Rubberhose
Adobe CC Illustrator
Adobe CC Photoshop
Adobe CC Premiere Pro

Bonus skills (not-essential);

Cinema 4D, Toon Boom Harmony, Flash, Unity, TV Paint

PERSONAL SKILLS

Well organised, both in time management and workflow.
Have attention to detail.
Ability to remain focused, especially when working under pressure.
Ability to multitask effectively across multiple projects to meet tight deadlines.
A good eye and understanding of visual storytelling, pace, timing and physics within animations.
Have experience and understanding in what makes good character work.
Be able to take constructive feedback, and act upon it appropriately.
Comfortable working independently, as well as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills (spoken, written and visual).
Willingness and desire to increase professional and personal development, and contributing to the growth of Shy Guys Studios.
Enjoy having a laugh and the occasional pint after work (we’re not that shy!).

OTHER INFORMATION

3-6 month probation period, leading into a permanent contract.
All staff are required to have their own Adobe CC license.
Bike locks are available on-site.
There is no parking on-site. A free on-road parking permit will be available for the first 3 months.
