Job Description

Deep Silver Dambuster Studios have an exciting opportunity within their highly talented and experienced Animation department for a Technical Animation Lead.

———- Key Purpose ———–

To ensure timely successful delivery of work, in accordance with the milestone schedule

Manage and Lead a team of Animators, creating a fun and vibrant working environment

Support Animation Director with overall departmental strategy

Work with other co-dependent functions to ensure smooth pipelines and processes

Monitor and maintain quality of team’s work to deliver the highest quality product

Evangelise the culture and support in Change Management initiatives

——— Responsibilities: ———–

Design, develop and implement animation workflows and systems that integrate into Unreal 4 engine and game.

Design, develop and implement animation tools and pipelines that facilitates animators work in Maya and Motion Builder character animation systems, including facial setups and performance capture workflows

Provide technical support for animators, offer solutions to maximise the efficiency, diagnose issues and fix in a timely and intelligent manner.

Manage technical animation team, identifying strengths, problem areas, and developing plans for improving performance. Scheduling of tasks including tracking dependencies, managing change requests, and guaranteeing quality of deliveries and educating the team on technical best practices. Evaluate interview candidates for technical positions.

Coordinate with Animation Director and Lead Animator and ensure tools and pipelines are ready for production. Report risks to Animation Director in a timely manner and proactively fix issues as they come along.

Collaborate with other game departments and contribute to the overall development of the project and raise any other issues that may need to be addressed

Provide input to the other disciplines on the practicality of initial design goals and impact to the overall project timeline.

Identify weak software systems that need code improvement and schedule corrective action, when possible.

Create automated test process for system features, where possible, and contribute to the build system. Aid in all stages of post-production including during finalizing

Scout for and evaluate new technology and tools as opportunities for innovation and development excellence.

Raise schedule/team issues and present solutions in a timely fashion

Manage, motivate and lead direct reports, evangelising our studio’s culture and values

Ensure new hires are allocated a buddy, attend 3 & 6 month reviews for new hires

Conduct appraisals and 360 reviews in line with studio deadlines; set team objectives and KPIs team adherence to company policies and culture

Oversee technical design documentation process for correctness and timeliness.

Write and maintain tutorials and documentation for animation tools and pipelines

———–Knowledge and skills:———–

Extensive experience developing pipelines and toolsets in for Maya and Motion builder in Python.

Experience developing and maintaining animation engine system across a large studio environment.

Complete understanding of Python OOP programming to help maintain the current metadata based back-end systems.

Experience using Motion Capture technology and facial performance capture, retargeting and processing data.

Experience of developing body and facial rigs.

Good communication skills and a great team-player attitude

Good knowledge of Unreal 4 engine

Maya API and C++ knowledge.

Experience in PySide / PyQT

Working knowledge of CryEngine and the according toolset

Production experience developing a first person shooter game or open world game

Experience with animation middleware (Havok, Morpheme) a bonus
